Almost every night, Johnny would go onto the REI website and look at crampons and an ice axe. Sometimes when he would look at it right before going to bed, he wouldn't be able to sleep, but only daydream about the day they would come in the mail and he could hike a mountain.
During Thanksgiving when my parents came up, I had to use their credit card to buy them online so that John wouldn't find out. I bought him the crampons and my father was so excited he got him the ice axe. Here's a short video of his discovery. Unfortunately he saw the camera first and was ridiculously camera shy, so he saved his little girl screams of excitement for off camera.
The new additions!
John was so excited off camera, he was hugging his new equipment, smelling them, and going around the house pretending to climb a mountain with them. Whenever I got the camera out though, he would stop! Luckily, I forced him to give us a short clip of his running in place on the couch with one crampon on. He said he felt dumb and that he's "too shy" to do it, but hopefully you will enjoy the few seconds.
